During the renovation period of the MAMCO building in Geneva, the availability of works from the collection provides an opportunity to launch a cycle of off-site projects, conceived as spaces for dialogue and reflection on synergies between Swiss cultural institutions.

In 2026, the MAMCO continues its “Tour de Suisse” in partnership with the Kunsthaus Biel Centre d’art Bienne (KBCB) for a monographic presentation dedicated to John M Armleder (born 1948). An internationally renowned Geneva-based artist, Armleder has spent forty years navigating between movements, practices, and mediums. His work is characterized by a constant questioning of art’s expectations, its value, and its display, defying any fixed stylistic categorization.

The exhibition presented in Bienne focuses primarily on the artist’s graphic production, revealing several hundred drawings in an unprecedented configuration. This major corpus includes some fifty graphic works from the MAMCO collection, entering into dialogue with paintings, sculptures, and installations. Among the latter, some were specifically created using elements sourced in Bienne, thereby anchoring the artist’s approach in the local context.
