Claude Rutault’s “definitions/methods” form the core of his work: written pictorial protocols that others may carry out, thereby reactivating painting over time and across contexts. In 2018, MAMCO inaugurated the Inventory, a permanent space dedicated to documenting and updating the 649 definitions/methods formulated by the artist throughout his career.
